OS Hardening - Securing Operating Systems

Hardening makes the system more difficult for intruders to gain access to your information.

1.      Turn on Windows Automatic Updates

2.      Enable Windows Firewall

3.      Find and disable various services

This are all the things your computer comes pre-loaded with.

1.      Go to control panel > Windows update and update all

2.      Go to control panel > Firewall > On the firewall > Click on allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall

(Here you can specify things out).

Open cmd > services.msc

(Now whatever you see now are all the services running on your computer right now)

1.      Telnet

2.      SMTP

3.      NetBIOS

4.      IMAP

5.      Any Remote Access Services

6.      SMTP

7.      Remote Registry

8.      TFTP should all be turned off.

Now all things done, updating system, using Firewall and Filtering Services etc. the last thing you need to do is use a good anti-virus program.
