What is formatting? How to totally format drives with a command?

Formatting- Formatting is the means to delete the existing data from a specific storage so that it can be used for fresh data.

Why it is a good idea to format a pen-drive using command?

The answer is it does a bad block test to test the disk and goes by sector to sector in the filesystem.

If you delete files from the drive some useless file related to the data are still present on the drive so in order to remove the remnants there is an option called formatting. Formatting means setting partition table and file system.

The actual process of formatting is quite easy. By right clicking on the selected drive and clicking on format.

If you check the ‘Quick format’ option all files will be deleted where as unchecking the  ‘Quick format’ option wipes the drive completely.

The same full format can be achieved using the command prompt. It could take your precious time depending on the size of the data present.

To perform: (Try using a pen-drive - be careful while choosing the drive letter)

Open command prompt on windows and type:

format I: and enter

Here I is the drive letter – in my case a pen-drive.

Note : You can also format a whole drive, your SD card, external HD etc using the command.
