Open run (Win key + R) and type – services.msc


Stop the ‘Windows Update’ service.


Navigate to C:\Windows\Software Distribution and delete everything inside it.


Open the link http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9830262 which automatically download WindowsUpdateDiagnostic tool.


Double click on it and follow the onscreen instructions.


Once done reboot the system – navigate to Control Panel and click on Windows Update.
